Templates

The O.R. is delayed this morning because the case in front of me has taken much longer than it was scheduled for; so I thought I'd take a few minutes and blog. As my fellow surgeon-bloggers know, a lot of surgery is of the "hurry up and wait" variety, where we sit around in the surgeons' lounge between cases because we're either delayed or the room turnover time is ridiculously long. There are few things more annoying (for patient and surgeon) than having to wait. Usually it's long enough to be really irritating but not long enough for me to go back to my office or laboratory and do something productive.

Now that I've been blogging a while, I've come to the conclusion that initially I probably picked the wrong Blogger template for the length that my posts tend to be. I had no idea what I was doing at the time or how this blog would evolve; I just picked the template that looked the most attractive to me. Unfortunately, the center bar in which the actual posts show up is too narrow, necessitating a lot of scrolling. I've tried using smaller fonts, but I don't like the results. Also, on some monitors, the sidebar doesn't show properly and gets pushed to the bottom. (This seems to be a problem particularly on Windows machines running Internet Explorer, as far as I can tell.) Consequently, I'm seriously thinking of picking a new template. The reason I haven't already done so before is that I've already customized this template quite a bit and have been until now unwilling to invest the time and effort it would take to carry my customizations over to a new template. Before I take the plunge, I was wondering if anyone out there had any suggestions for a good Blogger template for longer posts. The area in which posts appear should be much wider than that of my present template. I've seen a couple that would probably be better, but was interested in some input. Of course, general comments about the blog content and constructive suggestions for improvement would also be appreciated. And don't forget to read what I posted last night (below). It's a description of a pretty cool study.

  1. If I knew how, I would have done it already. I'm an HTML newbie and know very little about how to do it...
